Absolutely. If you google something straightforward like “pro-choice policies decrease abortions”, you will see lots of good articles like this one that link to the supporting research. Also the book Freakonomics goes into it a bit, especially linking the lowering of violent crime rates to fewer unintended pregnancies with the social changes brought about after Roe v. Wade (more unwanted children living in poverty means more people become criminals. If you suddenly have legal abortion, 30 years later you have lower rates of violent crime). But it is also common sense. I, unfortunately, grew up in a religious home and was given an abstinence “education” meaning I was not given any real sex education. I attended a Christian school, where girls got into trouble more frequently than in public school, because more girls in public school were being taught their bodies are their own and what to do, (especially early) if they get into trouble. But women, even young women, pretty much want to avoid getting pregnant naturally if you give them the tools to navigate and seek healthy sexual relationships, so fewer of them will need abortions in the first place, because their moms are buying them condoms and birth control and teaching them to not be ashamed about healthy impulses. One of the biggest criticisms I have toward the “pro-life” movement is they do not actually care about reducing abortions. Because we already know what reduces abortions. Planned Parenthood, Enemy No 1 according to the medieval GOP, does more to reduce abortions than the entire “pro-life” movement.
